Jake’s Never Land Pirate School

Jakes Never Land Pirate School

Jake’s Never Land Pirate School App from Disney Jr. is really cute. It offers itself (tongue in cheek I think) as Pirate ‘School’ borrowing from other school themed Apps, it has various leveling games laid out in a school room structure.

Your child can take classes in:

Sailing: a motion activated game where the iPad is tilted from side to side to navigate a ship’s path.

Pixie Dust: a maze game where kids collect little clouds of pixie dust along the way until they make their way through the maze. There is an emphasis here on tracing shapes.

Music Making: a fun interactive experience where the player chooses an instrument they’d like to play with the band and then a short snippet is recorded for them to play back.

Treasure Hunting: essentially an I Spy game where the player is asked to identify certain objects hidden on the screen.Jake's Never Land Pirate School

When each level is complete, your child earns gold deplumes to dig up and collect which reinforces counting from 1-9.  When all the courses are finished, a very cute digital pirate diploma is awarded. Ahoy to you.

In comparison to other educational apps out there, this app really feels like more of a fun activity book rather than an actual leveling educational app.  However, while playing the game, kids learn following instruction, shape identification, counting within 10, and gain pre-writing tracing skills. My 3-year-old had a lot of fun with it which of course makes it a great app for that dreaded plane ride or rainy day.

Jake’s Never Land Pirate School is available for iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. It is FREE $2.99 on App Store.

Thank you for the good writeup. It in truth is an amusing app.

  • I don’t seem to be able to get this one. Is it because I’m in the UK?

    • Probably. I know couple other Disney apps are only available in the US due to license limitations. This one might be the same.

  • Its such as you learn my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, such as you wrote the e book in it or something. I believe that you just could do with a few % to force the message home a bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
