Play Learning Games with Penguins

Penguin Kindergarten Free App

Penguin Pre-K and Penguin Kindergarten are two fun learning app for kids.  Two apps are very similar on the game play, except some differences on learning content.  For Pre-K, the problems are number values, ten-frames, 0-5 addition/subtraction, upper/lower case letters, geometry, color words, and pie graph comparisons. For Kindergarten, many contents are similar, but the math extends to 0-10 addition/subtraction, tally marks, and even mahjong counting.

After kids start the app, they see three igloos at the top of the screen, each igloo has a different image on it or a basic math equation. At the bottom of the screen, there is a little penguin next to a wooden sign with a similar image or number. The kids job is to identify which igloo from the top three matches the sign next to the penguin. For example, if the sign on the bottom of the screen has a 2 on it, kids will need to choose the igloo with 2-0= on it from one of the igloos. Penguin Kindergarten and PreK App

Once the kids choose an answer, they then have to guide the penguin into the correct igloo. It’s not an easy job.  If they miss, the penguin falls into the water or bumps his head on the edge of another igloo.  Some preschool age kids may not have the required fine motor skill to help the penguin get into the correct igloo, and this can lead to frustration. Depends on the children, if multiple tries don’t lead to frustration, more tries means more math practice. I suggest parents play with the child to sense where your child is.

Once the kids have answered 5 igloo questions correctly, they are rewarded with a fish tossing game.  For kindergarten version, there is an additional game where kids can collect points by bouncing the penguin on a trampoline. Kids win points on these games, and they can use the points at Trading Post to get different outfits for the penguin.

Another fun and creative activity for the kids is to create different little scenes with stickers.  They can share their pictures with family and friends by email.

Both Penguin Pre-K and Penguin Kindergarten work on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD.  Both are $1.99 on App Store.
