Fine Feathered Friends: All About Birds

Fine Feathered Friends: All About Birds post image

Normally, book apps don’t really appeal to me. I love paper books. I want my kids to love paper books. As I was going through this app however I found myself touching every bold word and feathered friend.  I get it now.  Book apps help make reading and learning to read fun and engaging.

Fine Feathered Friends: All about Birds is a new app in the Cat In the Hat Learning Library.  Kids will travel around the world to learn about a variety of birds – common features, traits of the biggest or smallest birds, …

When kids first open the app, they can choose to read the book themselves or have it read to them.  Anytime through the book, though, they can click on the menu arrow and turn the narration on or off.  You can even choose to narrate the book yourself for your child or have them read itFine Feathered Friends All About Birds via iGameMom.com to you and email the recording to yourself or even family members.

Throughout the story vocabulary words are displayed in bold type and display meanings when clicked .  On each page the name of every item and character on the screen is said and displayed when children touch them.  When the narration is turned on, the words that are spoken are highlighted when read.  Kids learn fun facts about a few particular birds and nothing is too heavy handed.  Each different location, story, and fact seems carefully chosen so children will want to read and revisit this crew of Cat and his friends over and over again.

NerdyBaker comments:

There is a page of onomonopia in the book that kept the kids and I giggling.  My little obsession was moving the birds in the background sky whenever I could, it never got old.

A non-fiction read designed for kids age 5 to 10, Fine Feathered Friends: All About Birds is $3.99 and is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

My kids and I love pigeons gathering in our yard. The kids have made a bird feeder for them. Last month my 7 year old son was telling me the eggs have hatched, there are baby pigeons in the nest. It’s wonderful how different birds gather in our yard to peck seeds and catch worms. We’ve seen the birds so up lose that we could see worms hanging from their beaks once while splashing in the paddling pool in the yard. Of all the different birds, pigeons are the hot favorite. My kids would be excited to learn more about birds from this app.

    • wow, that is wonderful. You don’t see the baby pigeons out of shell very often.

Thats because they build their nest pretty high or at places which are hidden from people; the nest is built up high above our toilet exhaust but if we go to the terrace we can have a better view. we have plenty of pigeons down here at our part of the world!

I love hummingbirds. Sometimes I see them in my garden. I had one fly by my ear last week when I was sitting outside. So amazing 🙂
