The Monster at the End of This Book

MonsterAtTheEndOfThisBookApp

The Monster at the End of This Book is an app version of the classic Sesame Street picture book from the 1970s. In the book, the adorable Muppet Grover tries to stop children from turning the pages so they will never reach the end of the book, where he believes there will be a monster. However, it turns out that at the end of the book there is only Grover himself.  The app enables the interactive activities kids can have while reading the book, such as untying the knots, knocking down brick walls.  This makes this app being more than just a book.

When the book is read, the words are highlighted, which helps kids make connections between written and read words.  However, there is no “Read by myself” option.

Another nice feature of the book is parenting advice from experts, providing helpful tips on how to help kids overcome fear and how to recognize kids are in fear.

What the kids learn:

While going through the book, the corresponding words are highlighted, so it will help the kids connect written words with spoken words.  However, it is not an app designed for kids to learn reading.  Instead, it is a video book for toddlers or even younger kids to learn the story.  With parents’ help, they can also learn how to deal with fear.

How can parents help:

Parents should read the Parent Guide in the app and read the book with your child.  After reading the book, find ways to talk to your child about “fear” and how to handle it.

iGameMom Comments:

It is a fun and engaging book app with a lot interactive activities.  Toddlers, even older kids, will for sure like it a lot. Parents can use this app as a starting point for a conversation about fear with your child.

It works on both iPhone/iPod and iPAD.  It is $4.99 on App store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

Thanks for letting me know. It is a great feeling to know the people took my recommendation and enjoyed it! Children’s safety is important, keep up the good work!

  • I really enjoyed reading this book to my children.

  • I love this book. I read it to my younger sister all the time. Might need to get this as well!

  • I have this and Another Monster…. on my iPad and my grand kids want to read it all the time — all of them! They love when I read the real book, but this gives me a break and they love it. My 2yo gd sees me and her 2nd words ( after grandma!) are ‘see emmo?’. I thought this iPad was for me to use!!!

It is hard to resist Elmo!

  • Hurray! We’re getting it!

  • I can vouch for this app’s awesomeness. My kids adore it (even the world-weary 6-year-old). My 3-year-old “reads” it weekly. I thought a book-focused app wouldn’t hold their attention as much as a game or whatnot, but I was wrong. Great app!

I didn’t know this was a book from the 70’s. Thanks for the information!

I did not know it is from the 70’s till I wrote this post. 🙂
