Sound Touch – Flash Card With Sound

Sound Touch – Flash Card With Sound post image

Sound Touch is a great learning tool for young children. It is a flash card app geared toward toddlers and preschoolers, but  the simplicity of this app is great for all ages. This app is a virtual version of flash cards, which helps children to learn name recognition as well as teaching them animal sounds and musical noises.

The main screen has 12 clip-art images to select from, and once chosen the screen displays a full screen photo of a real version, says the items name and plays a correlating sound. There are five different photos for each clip-art; so if your child’s favorite animal is a dog, they are able to see and hear five different dogs all from selecting the one clip-art dog. Along the bottom of the screen are six different categories to choose from giving a total of 72 flash cards items and 360 real life photos.

The categories are: farm and pet animals, wild animals, birds, vehicles, musical instruments, and household items. Sound Touch Another great feature of this app is the many languages it offers.

You can access the settings menu through your device’s general settings and choosing the SoundTouch app. Here you have the option to turn off or on the spoken words (dubbing), choose to display text, and select from 30 different languages! You can also choose how the images close, whether the screen is locked, how many items show at a time, and if you want to hide snakes.

The developers at SoundTouch also offer this app in a lite version. The free version has ads and only offers the animals and vehicles categories and three choices in the remaining categories. With the rich content, I feel it is well worth the money for the full version.

Daisy’s Comments:

This is one of mine and my toddler’s favorite apps; he loves to explore the animals, the vehicles, as well as the musical instruments, and household items.

This app is also beneficial to older age groups; as a Child Life Specialist I work in the hospital and have found this app to be very useful as a coping tool for even teens. When helping pediatric patients cope with a tough medical procedure, all patients can relate to the simplicity of their favorite animal or object. By offering familiar images of everyday things children are comfortable with, this app has proven to help relax their mind, slow their breathing, and make painful procedures more tolerable.

Sound Touch works on iPhone, iPod and iPAD.  It is $4.99 on App Store.  It is also available for Android with the same price.
