Be a Sandwich Chef and Learn Healthy Food Choices

I have seen several Duckie Deck apps recently, and they do a good job in engaging kids with apps. When I heard about their new app Sandwich Chef, I was excited to try it out. Plus, I am always interested in ways helping kids learn healthy food choices and eat healthy.

I had a lot fun with the app, although it is designed for kids! It encourages kids eat healthy in a fun and friendly way. After playing with the app, I am ready to make some real sandwich following the designs in the app! 

It is a very simple app. When kids open the app, they will see 10 sandwich designs. They can pick which one they want to make. Each sandwich uses different ingredients, but all are healthy choices, like various vegetables, egg, and cheese.

Once kids pick a sandwich they want to make, they will see a piece of bread and some ingredients hide on the side. One ingredient comes out at a time. Tapping on the food to cut the food into the shape that is needed, then move the cut piece of food to the spot shown on the bread. It is like a puzzle game. Each sandwich takes 5-8 pieces of food items. Each one looks like a wonderful art after all pieces are assembled. Some looks like a boat, some like a house. I love the clock made of tomato, cheese and peas.

I love ideas that have good teaching value and fun. Sandwich Chef is fun to play. The playing process is easy for young kids to maneuver, yet interesting enough even for me. It definitely opens up ideas of new ways to make sandwich. Who would not like to try a sandwich with a whale on it? Or a big smiley face?

With all the healthy food as ingredients, it is a great tool to teach kids about healthy food choices and be creative at the same time.

The whole process has no words, so it is good for kids of any language background. Parents can use it as a language tool as well. When kids pick a food item, speak the food name out loud with them, they will pick up some new food vocabulary while playing.
