FREE App: Stewie the Duck Teaches Water Safety

StewieDuckApp

Summer is a time to teach and reinforce children’s water safety.  Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim is a book app that teaches kids safety rules around water.  It is designed for kids aged 2 to 6.  Through the story of Stewie the duck learning to swim, the app delivers three rules to ensure that young children stay safe around the water.  The rules are repeated several times either as the story context, or as a song set to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.

There are three ways to read the book:

Read to me: a narrator reads the book to the kids.  The reader has to swipe to turn the page.  There is no word highlight while it is read.

Read myself: the kids read the book by themselves.

Auto play: a narrator reads the book and the page will turn automatically.

A fun feature throughout the book is collecting hidden duckies on each page.  Under the section EXTRA, there is a matching game.  Every time the kids find a match, one of the three rules will be sung again.   Under the section FOR PARENTS, there are useful water safety tips for parents.  There is also a video of the parents telling their personal story losing their son, who died in a drowning accident.

iGameMom Comments:

It can be difficult to teach young kids water safety rules.  This app is a perfect start for parents to talk about rules around water with young children.  The content is easy to understand by young kids, and the rules are repeated several times in the app.  Kids learn via repetition, so the more they play with the app, the better chance they will remember the rules.

The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod, and iPAD, and it is free.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the link provided. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support!

Thanks so much for sharing this. Because I’m an open water swimmer, I know the dangers of currents and tides. I’m always super-attentive with kids and water.

I grew up living close to a river. I remember hearing the story almost every summer some kid drown in the river. It was sad.

This looks excellent! Water safety for kids should be taken very seriously…and this makes something serious quite fun!

Can’t agree more. You cannot ask your toddler to sit down to give them a lecture. This is a fun way to deliver important message to the little ones.

Having grown up living on a large lake, I can appreciate the value of an application like this, excellent idea. Little ones of course don’t see the inherent danger of water, just the fun that it creates. Nice post!

That is way I like the app. It takes time for the safety concepts to sink in – expecially for the little ones. With a fun app they like to play with, we hope the messaage will stick with them eventually, with little resistence. :-)
