I have been looking for text free solutions for a while. When I first got my iPhone, I thought I was not going to text much, mostly just use it for phone calls, so we bought the mobile plan with monthly phone call coverage, and then pay text by number of texts we send and receive. But now more and more of my friends started texting instead of call, I feel we need to re-evaluate our mobile program, and I am so happy Vonage contacted me about their mobile app.
Vonage Mobile is a FREE app. It is available for both Android and iPhone. With the app, you can not only text to each other for free, share photo and video for free, you can also call each other for free, using WiFi or 3G/4G.
I introduced How to send text and image for free with iMessage App a while ago. What makes Vonage more attractive to me is that you can also make phone calls for free among Vonage app users. My husband and I just used it for phone calls and the sound was very clear. With this, we can shop for mobile plans with minimum coverage to cover the usage when there is no WiFi or 3G/4G, a situation doesn’t happen very often anymore – almost everywhere you go, you can find WiFi or 3G/4G nowadays.
Another nice feature I liked a lot is you can call/text to an Android phone who also uses the app. iMessage is limited to iOS devices, ie, iPhone, iPod, iPAD, and Mac computer. Vonage gives you the freedom among family members to choose different mobile devices. If you like iPhone, and your husband likes Android, you can still call and text for free between the two of you.
It is also worth pointing out, you can text or call someone in a different country, and the calls and texts will still be free, as long as you are doing it with WiFi or 3G/4G. This is a great feature for families that have family members or friends travel overseas.
If you have children who have iPods but no phones, you can help them download the app. Now they have mobile phones too – and you can talk and text to them for free!
Last I want to mention, the call to a Vonage landline is also free – anytime. For limited time, Vonage is offering free calls to any landline phones in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico for up to 3000 minutes per month. It is a good time to test out the call quality if you want to try it out.
The set up process is very simple. I just downloaded the free app, and entered my phone number. All my contacts are automatically pulled into the app. Next to each contact name you will see if that contact is also using Vonage – a very nice feature – so you know if your call/text will be free.
With my experience so far, I am very happy with the app – definitely worth a try. For more information, you can visit www.VonageMobile.com.
