Is learning sight words hard for your kids? For kids they could be consistent repetition of the boring words. However, sight words are the words you have to memorize them, there is not much other ways to learn them. They are also most seen words in early readers. How can we make the sight word learning a little less boring and a little more fun? How about playing sight words games with fun cartoon characters? Sight Words & Spelling With Pixopop is just an app like this.
In this app, kids will join Stitch Bunny and friends to learn sight words in a fun way.
There are 3 sections in the app: Flash Card, Word Challenge, and Spelling.
Flash Card has 24 sets of sight words, with 10 words in each set. This is for kids to learn the words. They can turn the quiz mode on, so they are not going hear the words unless they tap on the word pictures. If the Quiz mode is off, kids will hear the word read to them automatically.
Word Challenge is like a hangman game. Kids pick the requested word among 4 given words. Each time when they picked the right word, a part of the Pixopop is shown. When they pick the right word for 10 times, they get the whole Pixopop picture. Every time when kids finish a set of the game, they unlock a new set of words.
Spelling is the ultimate test for mastery. Kids are asked to type in the word using the provided kids friendly keyboard. If kids spell all 10 words correctly, they receive a trophy. If a word is spelled wrong, the word is added to Tricky Word list automatically. Kids can access Tricky Word list from the Custom list.
I love the cute cartoon characters. The hangman game will also keep kids interested in trying more.
The current 240 words included in the app is designed for kids from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. There is an option for users to create their own word list, which makes it possible to be used for a wider age group.
Sight Words and Spellling with Pixopop is available on iPad. It is $2.99 on App Store.
