What fun Apps! The Trip Little Critter Reading Adventure is based on Mercer Mayer’s classic book of the same title and features his incredible original artwork. It is a story book app with two options. One is to go on a Reading Adventure, two is to just read the story yourself, which is a great option for this app as the Reading Adventure can take a long time. On this adventure the whole Critter Family needs to get to Lake Wakatookee for… Read more
Storytelling is a great skill to have. Not only it fosters imagination, it also trains kids logic thinking, helps kids improve self-expression skills, thus better social interaction. I have reviewed several story telling apps, such as Toontastic and Toontastic Jr, Educreation, Scribble my story. Today I am going to share another one we’ve been using recently – Story Wheel. Story Wheel is like a writing prompt for young kids who are not writing yet. When kids open the app, they… Read more
A while ago I introduced Mindsnacks Spanish app. Now they have a kids vocabulary app with similar game settings. Different from typical ways that English is taught at school, the app groups words by context. The first lesson is all about animal life, so you see the words: omnivore, carnivore, herbivore, fauna, scavenger, voracious. Kids can jump into games right away, or they can choose to take the lesson first. In the lesson, they will see a cute picture illustrating the meaning… Read more
Last week the Piwi kids and I reviewed the first title in the Human Body Detective (HBD) Series by Dr Heather Manley. The main characters are young sisters, Merinn and Pearl, ie. Human Body Detectives. They show kids 6-12 year olds how their bodies work, and how they can stay healthy with good choices in nutrition and exercise. In addition to the app, they also have a website and curriculum go with the apps. We will have a review of the immune system curriculum posted soon. Today we are sharing… Read more
When I saw which app I would be reviewing I couldn’t download it fast enough, literally! My son waited for the app to be downloaded onto the iPad while his sister was already playing on her iPod. He was playing catch up for the next few minutes, looking over her shoulder the entire time. I mean, its a cool free LEGO app! The premise is simple. Kids pick a basic LEGO vehicle body, wheel, cabin, and cargo. They then run… Read more
Toca Tailor is FREE for limited time, from typical price $2.99. iGameMom reviewed Toca Tailor Fairy Tale, a similar app from the same developer. While Toca Tailor Fairy Tale has two fairy characters for kids to play with, Toca Tailor has four characters. It is an app I would recommend even if it is not free, so grab it while it is on deal. While in the app, kids pick one of the four characters they want to dress up… Read more
Mystery Math Town is developed by Artgig Apps, who also developed Marble Math. It is a math app for elementary school kids, but it is more than math. The story of the game is to help a little ghost rescue the fireflies that are hidden in Mystery Math Town. Kids have to solve math problems to unlock rooms while searching for fireflies. By collecting fireflies, kids move up game levels and earn talking portraits of the townspeople for their gallery… Read more
The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey from scholastic is a chapter book series geared toward school age boys. This book app is filled with action, thrills, and laughs. Your child can read the book, have the book read to them, or you can read it to your child. The silliness puts a fun spin on reading and a great way to draw in active, adventure seeking kids. The app has three sections: first the chapter book, second an… Read more

Today we are sharing some Easter devotional apps for kids. Although iGameMom is not associated with any particular religion, I believe religion is a good window for us to look into a culture. Having lived in 4 countries with completely different cultual, I appreciate any opportunity to expose my child to a different cultual. I am glad our reviewer JJ the Piwi mama explored Easter devotional apps to share with us. Let’s see what Piwi Mama have for us. This week the… Read more
The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories by Dr Seuss is another app produced by Oceanhouse Media and adds to their mighty cannon of Dr Seuss related products. I have to admit to being a very late latecomer when it comes to Dr Seuss. I was never introduced to it as a child and hadn’t read any of the stories until I had children of my own. I know, I know! My only excuse is that it just never featured… Read more

Traveling with kids can be one of two things…an absolute joy, or a terrifyingly stressful ordeal. The best thing a parent can do to prevent the latter is to BE PREPARED. Enter my secret weapon—the iPad. On long bus, train or plane rides, we do as many non-digital activities as possible. But the inevitable point always comes when the iPad is the best solution. My arsenal of Apps always have a real world component, that means whatever activity we do… Read more
