Learning synonyms and antonyms is a fun way to expand kids’ vocabulary. It also helps kids get the concept that there are different ways to express the same idea. Today I have an app helping kids learn synonyms and antonyms, and it is free for limited time.
First Grade and 2nd Grade Antonyms and Synonyms is a fun app designed for kids to learn and master synonyms and antonyms. It has 4 activities covering about 250 pairs of antonyms and synonyms words.
Once kids open the app, they can choose the content they want to learn: first grade or second grade, synonyms or antonyms. Once they make the choice on the content, they can then choose the activity: flash card, matching game, memory game and sentences.
Flash Card, Matching Game and Memory Game are pretty self-explanatory from the activity names. Kids tab on the cards to flip them while playing the games.
Sentences are picture cards. Each card has a picture and a sentence describe the picture. There is another sentence below with a blank. Kids have to pick a synonyms or antonyms word to fill in the blank. If kids pick the correct word, the app moves to the next card. If kids pick the wrong word, they have to do it again.
All words in the sentences are clickable. If kids tab on the words, they will hear the word read aloud to them. If they don’t like to hear the words or sentences read aloud, they can turn it off in setting by clicking on the little symbol at the lower left corner of the screen.
I like the option that you can create a customized worksheet into a PDF file. You can choose the words you would like to include in the worksheet, and create either a worksheet for matching game or sentences with blank words. If you want to know how to write on PDF files (so kids can use the worksheets on iPAD), please visit How to Read and Write on PDF files on iPad.
First Grade and Second Grade Antonyms and Synonyms is available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is usually $3.99 on App Store. It is FREE for limited time.
