Do you like to take kids camping? What do you do when camping with kids? Today we have an app for kids about camping, Camping with Grandpa. It not only teaches kids wildness survival skills, but also gives us fun ideas of camping activities for kids. Check it out.
There are 7 games throughout the app.
First kids are asked what to take to the camping trip. They will have several options, such as water, hat, lighter. There are also some items that you don’t want to take for the hike, like a cake. If kids picked something that is not appropriate, grandpa just say “eh, I don’t think so” with a smile, reminded me my own grandpa.
Next kids are asked to pick a trail, then are asked to identify the direction from the map. Once the direct is set, grandpa will take the kids to go on the trail.
While walking on the trail, grandpa will ask kids to identify a certain type of trees or birds. “Can you find all the pine trees?” or “Can you find all the tiger swallowtail butterflies?” If kids correctly identified the object, they receive a patch. If kids are having difficulties in finding the object, a picture of the object will show up on the screen to help them find it on the trail.
Next grandpa asks kids to help some animals to find food to eat. So far, I have seen butterfly, bees, turtles, and frogs. Kids need guide these animals to the correct food source.
Another fun game is animal tracks. Kids are asked to make some tracks on the sand, then asked to identify which animals these tracks belong. Is it a raccoon track? A squirrel track? Or a rabbit track?
Now it is time to build a camp fire. Kids will have chance to roast marshmallows and hot dogs. It is fun to taste a s’more made with the marshmallows roasted by yourself.
After all these fun, it is time to go into the tent. Kids will play a shadow game matching objects to the shadow on the wall, and a crossword puzzle game.
After games, kids will watch a short video with grandpa. All videos are short and teach kids about camping, such as wearing comfortable shoes.
Before going to sleep, kids will help grandpa douse the camp fire, and then pick a stuffed animal to sleep with.
When a new day starts, kids are asked to pick another hiking trail and a new fun day starts.
Camping with Grandpa is such a fun app. It teaches kids basics of outdoor survival skills and the natural world in a relaxed and easy setting. If you like camping, this is a great app to have.
