FREE App – Music Sparkles

MusicSparkleApp

Does your toddler or pre-schooler like music?  I remember my boy liked playing the toy xylophone when he was little.  He liked beating on different keys and making different sounds.  If you have a little one who likes those music toys, you should check out the app Music Sparkles.  This app provides kids with virtual instruments that they can play and create their own music.

After you open the app, you can tap on one of the instruments to play.  There are two instruments come with the app for free (xylophone and drum).  There are another 12 instruments that are available via In-App purchase, such as piano, harp, guitar.  For each instrument, there are 5 music loops from which the kids can choose to accompany the music they create.  There is a learning section.  You can get to the learning section by tapping on the G-clef sign at the right-bottom corner of the home screen.  In learning section, the music note names (Do, Re, Me, …) are shown on the notepad while kids are playing music notes.  It is a good way to help kids make the connection between the key and the music note.

What the kids can learn:

While playing the app, kids will learn intuitively that different instruments produce different sound qualities.  They will also gain basic knowledge of music notes, such as note name, note pitch.  The app is all free play, so the kids have to be creative while playing the music.

How the parents can help:

Provide positive feedback on kids’ music creation.  Point out the different pitch levels, and how do they related to the music notes on paper.  Let the kids play when they are in the mood for it, don’t force them to play when they don’t want to, don’t interrupt when they are in the middle of a creation.

iGameMom Comments:

This is a free play music app designed for kids 6 and younger, although older kids may also enjoy the app.  The interface is bright and intuitive, the sound is clear and accurate, and the animation is fun.  It is a good starter that introduces basic music knowledge while having fun.  The only wish I have is a recording function, so kids can record their creation.

It works on iPhone, iPod and iPAD.  It is FREE at the App store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the  App Store link button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support!

Thank you for helping spread the word! Yes, parents and teachers should really take a look at these fun and educational apps. The more good apps/games we offer to our kids, the less chance they will get on the bad game.

  • Downloaded it and can’t wait to show my nieces and nephews! Thanks.

  • I can’t wait till Rocket is old enough to do this! Love seeing your posts each day – it keeps me young while I wait for Rocket to be old enough to play and learn!

You are welcome! Oster probably can play this app, will he?

  • My 2 year old daughter LOVES this app. She likes the music loops so she can dance to them. Previously she would randomly touch the keys on the instruments. Now, at 28 months she is playing scales with the keys and making deliberate note choices. I think she has put it together that the xylophone is like Grandma’s piano, which she loves to play.

Kids are creative. They always find their own ways to use something. I did not thought about dancing with the music loops. so creative!
