Free App: Netflix Movies Offer Good Kids Movie Selections

Netflix

We like to watch movies as a family. When you have a good movie for kids, these movie watching experience can be very educational. Last month we started using Netflix again.  I really liked Netflix movies stream program.  We tried Netflix a couple years ago, but discontinued due to concerns that my son may be exposed to some content that are not appropriate for his age.  Now with the new feature Kids Movie, we decided to give it another try and so far I am happy about it.

With Netflix, You can watch movies and TV shows on your mobile devices – on all types of devices, iPhone, iPAD, Android, Kindle.  All you have to do is to download the free app and sign up an account.  Every new account has one month free as trial, then it is $7.99 per month.  Think about how much you have to pay for a movie ticket or a DVD rental, I feel this is well worth it.  Plus you can watch the movies at home or on the go at a time convenient for you.

Netflix Movies for KidsLast time when we tried Netflix, we did not find an option to limit the movies that are available to watch. There was no password, so if you have a child at home, he/she can get on it and randomly open up a movie and watch. There were a lot that were not appropriate for kids.  We had to cancel our subscription.

This time, the interface is a lot nicer and easier to navigate. Most importantly, there is a Kids section. You get into Kids section by tapping on the Kids button on the top left corner. There is a wide selection, all are age appropriate.  You will find movies like The Lorax, The Magic School Bus, Tintin. Combined with iPAD feature Guided Access (see iGameMom instruction on How to lock iPAD / iPhone screen so kids stay within the app), you can set it up in Kids section and feel safe to hand your iPAD to your child.

I also like the feature of creating a list for each member of the family.  I created a list for myself, one for my son, and one for the family to watch together.  When it is family movie time, we can go to different lists to pick one we want to watch.

I liked the selection of Netflix movies.  It allows us easily find some good movies that are not in the theater anymore.  It is a great way to catch up good movies and stay in the comfort of home.
