Sparky’s Birthday Surprise is a book app teaching kids about fire safety. It is a free app supported by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). It is available on Apple devices and Android devices. If you visit the NFPA website for kids sparky.org, you will see many great educational content on the site that you can use for free.
The book is designed for kids ages 3-7, but older kids, even parents, can learn something useful too.
Sparky’s friends send Sparky to a rescue mission, while they are preparing for a surprise birthday party for him. Throughout the preparation, the dog Pip the Poodle teaches everyone fire safety tips. After reading the book, kids should be able to recognize the smoke alarm sound, know what to do after they hear the fire alarm, know how to identify things that are hot in the kitchen. 
The safety messages are clear and simple, that kids can remember after reading the book. There are games at the end of the book to reinforce what kids have learnt from the story.
There are three ways to read the story:
1. Just a Book: kids read the book themselves, with no narration, perfect for quiet or independent reading time.
2. Read & Play: Kids can play with the interactive features on each screen.
3. Read To Me: the story will be read to the kids. Early-learning reading skills are reinforced with text highlighting and synced narration.
In addition to games, kids will love the sing along feature. They will sing the “If the Smoke Alarm Sounds” song with Sparky and his friends. By the time kids learn to sing the song, they will remember what to do when they hear the fire alarm.
Those coloring pages will provide hours of play time. There are 6 pages with pictures on them, and one blank page for kids to create their own picture.
Another cool feature of the app, it is available in both English and Spanish.
