FREE: eBooks and Math Games from Oxford Owl

Oxford Owl

Today I have a very nice website to share.  It of course works on mobile devices, iPhone and iPAD included.  Oxford Owl  is a fun learning website designed for kids up to 11 years old.

It has eBooks, Math games, learning activities ideas, and printables, all are free.

To access the content, you need first sign up for a free membership. Then you can choose between Math and Reading.

In Reading, there are over 250 eBooks, all can be read on tablets or computers.  Most books have audio so kids can listen to the books too.  You can choose books by kids age and book type, such as picture books, biography, or non-fiction.  There are no interactive activities on the pages, but all are beautifully presented on the screen. In Math, I found the videos of math games under Math at Home are most helpful.  There are some fun quick math games you can do with kids.  One of my favorite is the Times Table Fingers Game.

The navigation on the website was a little confusing for me at first.  But after playing around on the website for a while, I find the best way to navigate the website is to go to Math page, then click on the Fun Activities tab.  From there, you can search activities by age.  The filtered results not only include math activities, but also eBooks for that age, and other fun activities and printables.

In addition to activities and books, there are also guidance on school standards and parenting tips on how to work with kids on academic related subjects, like homework. Since it is a UK website, the school standards are for UK schools.

Overall it is a great website for free eBooks and learning activities.  If you have kids in primary schools (preschool to mid-elementary), it is definitely worth a visit.
