Have you ever watched “Are you smarter than a fifth grader”? Do you like it? Now it has an app with the same name.
This is a fun academic family game. Any one started school can play. Kids in first or 2nd grade may not be able to answer all the questions, but I am sure, there are some questions they can answer better than mom and dad.
There are two ways to play the game: Normal Round and Play a Show. In Normal Round, you goal is to raise your score by correctly answering 8 questions, with 2 questions from each grade level of 1 through 4. Each question is directed to a specific academic subject such as Math, English, Geography, Art, and History. You play against 6 other players. You can win cash bonus (game money) by being the first to respond correctly. The dollar amount you win is the assigned value for that question multiplied by the number of players who answered the question incorrectly.
In Play a Show, your goal is to beat the other 6 opponents to be the top student of your class. You then will be granted access to a bonus 5th grade question.
The app requires internet connection to function properly. If you are not connected with WiFi, it will use 3G or 4G. For some people, this means using your data plan.
You can login using Facebook account. This will enable you to play against friends. However, if you are not comfortable for kids to be connected online, you can simply play as Guest.
There are In-App purchases to buy “stars”. Each game costs 25 stars, so buying more stars will allow you to play more games. However, there are other ways to earn stars, such as being the first to answer a question correctly, or simply have the game screen on, you will gain a star every 6 minutes for doing nothing. I never found it necessary to buy the “stars”.
This is a fun game that the whole family will love. Everyone will learn something after the game, no matter it is a new word, or a historic figure. My son likes the fact that he gets higher scores than me most of the time.
If you are concerned your child buying the stars via In-App Purchase, you should turn off the In-App Purchase on your device. Here is an article on how to do it.
The app works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. There is a Free version with ads. The premium version is $2.99 at App Store.
If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The button works for all countries.
