Fun Shape Learning App: Shape the Village

shape the village

Shape the village is fun shape learning app. It does a terrific job of introducing and then reinforcing shapes to your child. The set is a cute and colorful village of land, sky and sea full of characters made out of very simple shapes. The use of nothing but squares, circles, triangles and rectangles allows a child to see how almost anything can be put together by combining basic shapes. It also makes the characters extra adorable and fun to interact with.

Fun App About Shapes - Shape the VillageAs your child works their way around the village, they can touch certain spots (the bus stop, the island, etc) to reveal a shape based puzzle in need of solving. Once solved, a new character will join their village along with a new spot containing a new puzzle. There are sixteen puzzles in all for your child to get through, but once they are solved and all the characters revealed there is still more fun to be had.

The characters can move and play around the village and if the puzzles are attempted again, a different shaped character may show up. This kind of visual reinforcement of shapes is very clever to engage very little ones, but the app will keep the 5-7 set entertained as well. Plus all the characters go to sleep at 10pm and don’t wake up until 7am, a very cute touch. The developers have also included an offscreen component (a favorite of mine!!), a printable workbook you can grade for your child with ideas, activities and games to reinforce the understanding of shapes off the screen. That just solved the problem of any potential holiday cabin fever.

Shape the Village is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It is currently on promotion for $1.99, the regular price is $2.99. There is a lite version that is free.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
