Learn Math with Math in Action

Math in Action

Math In Action is a math app designed for kids from preschool to early elementary school.  In addition to math facts, it also addresses sorting by colors and shapes, fine motor skills, and fun math related games.

There are 4 sections in the app: Sorting, Addition, Subtraction, and Transformation. Each section has 20 levels, and 5 are free.  There are also 3 game rooms for math related fun: Abacus, Music room, and Play Room.

When kids enter a section, there is always an introductory demo on how this section is about and steps needed to solve the problem. If kids correctly solve a problem, they can move on to the next. If they do it wrong, they will be asked to do it again. The difficulty levels progress as kids solve more problems. They earn music instruments after successfully solve 5 problems in each section.

Sorting: kids will sort blocks by color, shape or size. I like the fact that many times, kids have to figure out what attributes to use to sort the blocks by observing the demo pictures. Math in Action App

Addition: I like the hands-on approach of learning in this app. Kids will be asked to make identical block towers as the demo picture, or asked to build one with x blocks taller.  Once they finish building the tower, they will be asked to count the total blocks in the tower they just build.

Subtraction: similar to addition, kids build towers with certain number blocks lower. They then have to count the number of blocks in the tower they build.

Transformation: kids are asked to replace blocks of certain color with a different color, then count number of blocks of each color.

The three play rooms are full of fun.  Abacus is a fun room to learn counting, music room is the play kids get to play with the instruments they earned from solving problems, Play room is a place for kids to play with shapes.

Overall, it is a fun and engaging math app with tons of exercise problems.  Besides math, kids also gain fine motor skills from maneuvering the blocks. It will be a great learning tool for all kids, but will be particularly helpful for hands-on learners and visual learners.

Math in Action works on iPAD.  It is FREE to download, with 5 levels in each section come with the free download.  To unlock all 20 levels in each section, it is $2.99 via In-App Purchase.
