Little Critter Collection 2 – Great Early Childhood Stories

Little Critter Collection 2

If you are an avid user of the iPad for children’s books, then you are no stranger to Oceanhouse Media. They are the developers who bring many childhood classics into a digital format. If you are new to the onscreen versions of these childhood classics, we can tell you Oceanhouse Media does a terrific job to deliver consistent quality to your iPad. The books are clear and simple, they maintain the exact format of their paper counterparts. There are no extraneous bells and whistles to distract kids from the story.  In fact, the stories are enhanced when you touch one of the words.   The word appears in larger font across the screen while a voice says that word again.  This feature allows an early reader the opportunity to understand a word and its meaning by using both auditory and visual skills.  There is the option to have the books read to you at your own pace, read to you on auto play or you can read them yourself.  Oceanhouse has created so many books in fact, they offer their very own Oceanhouse Media digital iPad bookshelf to store all your Oceanhouse favorites.

Little Critter Collection 2 Book AppThis Little Critter Collection 2 has all of the above functionality with a few extra perks, like the ability to record and save your own voice as you read the story.  This could be a potential source of comfort for a little one if they need a bedtime story when parents may not be home for bedtime.  Another perk for this collection highlights Mercer Mayer’s adorable illustrations.  The reader can hunt down some of the additional little critters (grasshoppers, spiders, mice) Mayer hides on each page.  When they are touched they make a satisfying little ‘bing’ sound and at the end of the story the reader can find out how many they found or missed.

Of course the best part of this collection are the stories themselves.  This is a collection of ten Little Critter adventures focused on early emotional development, and they are adorable.  Is a visit to the Dentist scary?  It can be, but maybe it’s not too bad after all.  Looking for a lost toy?  What a surprise!  Little Critter found his after he cleaned up his room!  Did you have a bad dream?  Little Critter has bad dreams too, let’s see how he handles them.  Let’s find out what Little Critter does if he ever  gets lost.  These kinds of topics make this a great collection of stories to have on hand throughout early childhood, a fabulous tool for a parent to have in their arsenal that a child can really enjoy too.

Little Critter Collection 2 is available on iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It is $12.99 on App Store.
