Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow

Little Red Riding Hood by Nosy Crow post image

I remember reading fairy-tales as  a child. I could read or be read the same story over and over and find so much enjoyment. I love reading and hope I can pass on this passion to my children. The children’s book and app publisher, Nosy Crow, has taken the classic fairy-tale of Little Red Riding Hood to a new level. This interactive book app allows children to become part of the classic fairy tale. They have turned the story into a type of choose-your-own-adventure where the reader gets to help Little Red Riding Hood through the woods and pick different paths that lead to a different ending.

Fairy-tales help our children develop literacy, empower their imaginations, and provide them with a creative outlet to build their minds. Fairy-tales and classic stories are also good for their memory building skills. This app is targeted toward the 3-6 year old age range, as well as parents. I had a lot of fun reading this app myself. When you open the Little Red Riding Hood app, you have the option to read the story yourself or have the story read to you. Either option will take you through the same story and allow you to interact with the characters on each page. If you choose the option to read it yourself, you are able to select how long the text will appear, choosing from short, medium, and long. Throughout the story you utilize the two finger swipe to move around the room or page. Using one finger will allow you to touch characters prompting them to talk to you or using one finger allows you to move objects around.

The fun part comes when Little Red Riding Hood travels through the woods. I won’t ruin the surprise by giving away too much detail, but there are three forks in the road that allow the reader to choose which path they want to take. Each path leads to a different game the reader will need to participate in. Games such as mazes, picking flowers, finding acorns, or a music memory game just to name a few. The various paths have an impact on the end of the story and what happens when Little Red Riding Hood gets to Grandmother’s house.

I highly recommend this app as even I had a lot of fun playing around with the story and I am sure you and your children will too.

Little Red Riding Hood is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It $4.99 on App Store.

I’m sorry if this post is too old to post comments on, but I’m trying to download the app and it says it’s not available in my country or region. Do you know where it’s available?

  • This looks cute! Thanks for sharing at The Children’s Bookshelf, I hope you join us again when we return in September.

  • Is there a suggested age level for this app?
