Music Ear Training for Kids at Home

Kids Ear Training

Today I share a music ear training app for kids.

Do your children learn any music instrument? Do they have to do ear training? Mine is learning piano.  He is in a program that he has to take tests every year. Part of the test is ear test. They are asked to listen to two or three notes and then answer questions about what they just heard: the intervals, the triads, or the pitches.

It might be not that hard if you already know all those music stuff. It was hard for us, as neither I nor my husband knows anything about it, and still we need help our son to learn. I so wished there was an app that is easy for the kids so they can just go through the program by themselves. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I found this ear training for kids app.

mDecks Ear Training for Kids provides leveled ear training programs for kids who are learning instruments or singing. It is a convenient music training app for kids, compared to those training CDs.Ear Training for Kids at Home

There are 6 sections in the app:

Introduction – Sound & Fun; Relative Pitch – Solfege & Kodaly Signs; Perfect Pitch – Notes & Notation; Rhythm – Ta, Toas & Notation; Intervals – Alone and in Context; and Triads – Alone and in Context.

There are two ways to play:

Guided Study Mode: The app controls the levels availability based on kids’ progress. Kids won’t be able to move to the next level until they have mastered the current level.

Free Study Mode: Kids can play any stage and level freely.

Once kids choose a section to practice on, they will be taken to the test areas, with a natural outdoor scene. It is a soothing scene with green grass and blue sky, accompanied with light music and sound effects, such as wind.  Tapping on the start button on the black belt starts the game.  Kids’ job is to identify the right balloon that plays the required notes, like a Major Triad, Diminished Triad, etc. There are two balloons for each test.  Tapping on and holding on the balloon will play the notes that balloon carries. Double-tapping on the chosen balloon will mark the answer to the test.  Kids earn points for each correct answer.

Overall, mDecks Ear Training for Kids is a handy tool to do some ear training at home, where no one can help the kids.  It is not a teaching tool, but a practice tool.  It requires user’s prior knowledge of all the concepts covered in the app.

mDecks Ear Training for Kids works on iPAD and Androids. It is $2.99.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
