Is your child afraid of dark? Do they see monsters in the dark? The visuals in the dark is very different from that in day light, and one big component of it is the shadows. DisMonstes is a fun puzzle game of shadow, showing kids where shadows are from, and how they can become so big and in weird shapes. Hopefully when kids really know what the shadows are, they can eventually turn this shadow play into a special platform to show off their creativity by creating some unique shadows of their own.
It is dark at the night. Kids walk into a room with a flashlight. Oh, what is that big black thing on the wall? Move the flashlight, kids will see that the big monster on the wall moves too. But if they look around the room, they will find objects of similar shapes and if they pick up the object and move it onto the big black shadow, they can take the shadow apart. Most shadows are made of more than one objects, and that is why all the weird shapes, and this means kids have to find more than one objects to fit into each shadow to completely get rid of it. It is a different type of puzzle game!
As kids play and demystify more shadows, the games will become more difficult. Kids will need rotate the object to fit in certain part of the shadow, or they have to open the drawers to find the objects. Some times the object could be under a blanket.
DisMonster is a good game to teach kids where the shadows are from, and how they are formed. It is an easy and fun way to help ease their fear of shadow and darkness.
Once kids are comfortable with the game, they can even create their own shadow monster using different objects they can find in the room. This shadow demystifying game now turns into a creativity game.
