DuckieDeck Family Photo app is an app that lets kids explore their creative side while creating personalized portraits. Whether it’s creating a face that resembles their own family member, a friend, or someone that only lives in their imagination it is a great app that encourages creativity and lets a child show their expressive side. This app targets skills such as fine-motor development, hand-eye coordination, and expressive art. With the options to choose facial expressions this app can also aide in the development of emotions with the help of a parent to provide discussion about the various emotions or feelings a child’s portrait may display. It’s a great basic app to add to your collection that can provide hours of entertainment.
Unlike other facial designing apps this has a family photo theme. So you can create just one portrait or create a few and fit them together for a family photo. The creators designed this app for children as young as toddlers but it’s such a classic that kids of all ages will have fun being creative and designing their own portraits. And parents can rest at ease while their child explores this app because there are no advertisements or in app purchases allowed.
Each face has so many personalized options ranging from skin color, eye shape, hair do’s, clothing apparel, to accessories. It even includes the latest Google Glass wear as an option in the glasses category. The options are endless among the 13 different custom categories.
This is a great app and something I utilize as a creative tool in my workplace: working with children in the hospital. It allows them to freely express themselves through a different form of art and keeps them entertained while facing the mundane-ness of hospitalization. It encourages self expression when they may be facing a tough situation. This app also has the potential to be used as a therapeutic tool allowing children to express or identify family dynamics while creating their own personal family photo.
DuckieDeck Family Photo is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It is $2.99 on App Store.
