Underwater ABC is a fun ABC app teaching kids alphabet and ocean animals at the same time. It couldn’t have come into my life at a better time. Correctly writing his letters can be a struggle for my kindergartener. Writing letters isn’t the issue, it is the correctly part that trips him up. This app teaches printing in a methodical yet fun and engaging way, all the while learning the names of some ocean animals.
Each letter is taught in upper case and lowercase. For each letter, before kids can start tracing the letter, they see highlights of each stroke and the direction they should follow to write the strokes, from top to bottom, or from left to right. Then kids will see star appears, signaling to kids that they can begin tracing. This prevents little ones from skipping ahead and forces them to actually see what they are going to do before they have to do it.
When kids finish tracing the letter, they will see a sea animal, whose name starts with the letter, appears under their finger or pen. The alphabet sea life is every bit a fun bonus and reward.
This app is deceptively simple and a lifesaver personally. Not only can my kindergartener correctly write more letters than he did just a few weeks ago, integrating this app into the letter of the week his class studies has been a no brainer and has helped ease my kindergarten homework stress immensely.
Underwater ABCs is $2.99 on the App Store and is available for iPad, iPod, and iPhone. It is also available for Android on Google Play.
