In celebration of Mother’s Day, Oceanhouse Media has set their book app Just Me and My Mom FREE. It is part of their Little Critter series by Mercer Mayer.
Little Critter was having a special day in the city with his mother. They had all the fun together, including the things went unexpected: the train tickets were gone when the conductor came by, the little critter got caught by the museum guard while trying on some costumes … With all these, mom had always been there with him …
We had always loved the little critter stories. There are always something sweet and unexpected in the stories. The unique point of view from a child is always a good reminder on how children think differently from adults. “The city was very busy. I held mom’s hand so she wouldn’t be scared”. I simply can’t help smiling at the cutest thought.
Like most Oceanhouse Media apps, there are nice features helping kids learn reading: individual words are highlighted as the story is read and words zoom up when pictures are touched. A relatively new feature in their books is the ability to record and share your own narration with family and friends.
There is a mini-game in the app – on each page there is a hidden frog. Kids can search for the frog. At the end, kids will see how many frogs they have found. Not sure if it will distract kids’ attention from reading, but it will definitely motivate kids to go back to the app to read again.
Just Me and My Mom is available on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. It is also available for Android devices on Amazon and Google Play, and on Nook. Usually $1.99, it is now FREE for limited time.
