The interface of the app is quite straight forward. When kids start the app, parents can help them choose the age level. There are 3 age levels, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, and 5 to 6. But I don’t think you need stick with the actual age. Instead, just think it as 3 difficulty levels.

All theme of all three levels are similar. Kids will help Leo the cat driving the train to transport animals and food for the animals. They will be asked to load the train with certain number of different food, and sometimes, they will be asked to choose food by types and colors too.

Kids will then help Leo to deliver the food to the animals, or more specifically, an elephant. Again, the elephant will tell them what food he wants. Sometime is certain types of food, like banana and apple. Sometime, he wants food of certain color. Gradually, he will be pickier on the number of food items too, like 2 yellow bananas and 3 red peppers.

If you choose the age 3 to 4 level, which is the easiest level, kids won’t see numerical numbers. Instead they will see actual counts of the items the elephant wants, like a picture of 3 apples telling kids they need feed the elephant 3 apples.

If you choose the age 5 to 6 level, which is the most difficult level in the app, kids will see the numerical number. For example, they will see “3” next to an apple to know they need feed the elephant 3 apples. As the game progress, kids will see bigger numbers and more complicated grouping requirements, like all yellow food plus 2 red apples.

Along the way, kids will see some visual hints to encourage them interact with the scene. Sometime, it is to tap on the flowers to bring them to full bloom. Sometime, it is to tap on the beehive to release bees.

Depending on how well they do on each activity, kids receive 1 to 3 candies as rewards after each activity. Every time they reach 12 candies, they can change them into a coin that can be used on a vending machine, and buy an rewarding item, like a hat, a bottle of drink, or a lollipop.

Safari School is an easy and engaging app for preschool kids to learn basic numbers, colors, and sorting skills. It is a completely free app at the time of review. Give it a try, see if your child like it.
