Free: Cool Math Game Website and App

IXL Math Practice

Recently I find another online learning website offering cool math games with 10 questions free everyday, and it is completely functional on iPad and iPhone. It’s called IXL. It also has a free math app offering the same free math practice service. What is interesting, the website and the app are not connected if you use them as a guest, and you can have 10 practice questions free on each, so you can get a total of 20 questions free every day.

What I like it the most is the program by grade level from Grade PreK to 12, with a detailed list of very specific skills. I also like the explanation it provides on problems kids fail to answer correctly.
Free Cool Math Games for Kids Grade PreK to kindergarten to Grade 12. Each user can have 20 FREE math problems every day. All problems are searchable by grade level, tailored to 10 different countries' school system. Practice is broken down by specific skills. Users can access online via computer or on Tablet. Wonderful education resource for classroom, homeschool, or after school at home.
When kids open the homepage http://www.ixl.com, they will see a page with several small blocks marked with grade levels. For math, IXL covers Grade PreK to Grade 12, plus Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. This is for US. It also has corresponding grade levels for different countries, such as Ireland, Singapore, United Kingdom. If you go to the bottom of the homepage, click on International, you will see a total of 10 countries.

Click on one block with the corresponding grade level kids are in, they enter into the section with practice choices of that grade level. The practice options are many, with detailed skills listed. For example, for first grade, kids will see 19 sections, like Counting and Number Patterns, Subtraction, Spatial Sense, Mixed Operation. Under each section, there are specific skills listed. For example, under Counting and Number Patterns, kids will see “Counting Review – 0 to 10”, “Counting Review – 10 to 20”, “Skip Counting with pictures”, etc. Clicking on a specific skill, kids start practice questions for that skill, one question at a time.

Kids answer each question by typing in the answer or click on the answer if it is a multiple choice problem. If kids answer the question correctly, they earn points, and the next question shows up. If kids answer the question wrong, they lose points, and they see an explanation of the problem with the correct answer.

The only drawback is the daily limit of 20 problems for free accounts. If you need more than 20 a day, you need to sign up for a paid membership. However, if you are using it to supplement another program, 20 a day is just enough. If you need more than 20 problems a day, it is $10/month or $80/year for the membership.

If you just use the free service, you won’t be able to keep the scores. This means you have to keep track the child’s performance or progress yourself.

In addition to math, IXL also offer language art practice by grade level, from Grade 2 to 5.

There is a free app for iPad, only covers math. The app is free with the same free offer. Since the website fully functional on iPad and iPhone, you can consider the website and the app being two separate apps with the same content. Since the free option doesn’t require sign in, kids can do 20 questions on the website, and another 20 from the app, this is a total of 40 questions a day. You can find the download link for the free app at the bottom of this post.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
