Fun Grammar Game for Kids – Smashing Grammar

Fun Grammar Game for Kids – Smashing Grammar post image

I always felt grammar is hard. It is a set of rules for the language, yet there are always exceptions, which make remembering the rules hard. Also it is mostly just memorization, so learning grammar is boring and hard. Since my child started learning grammar, I tried to find fun ways to make it easier. I actually have a collection of grammar resources. Whenever I found a great grammar learning tool, I get excited, as it is just not easy to find. Today I have to share a grammar app, Smashing Grammar.
Fun grammar game app for elementary school kids with interactive activities for noun, verb, tense, spelling, and more. Great supplement practice for English class and homeschool.
What is fun about this app is it makes the key grammar practices into games. It doesn’t teach new grammar, but if your child is learning grammar and need some more exercise and practice to reinforce the understanding the grammar and fluent in using them, this is a great tool.

There are 6 sections in the app, and each section is a game covering one grammar topic: Noun Disco, Verb Garden, Syllable Spaghetti, Spelling Slumber Party, Tense in Paradise, Plural Piggies.

In each section, kids are asked to pick the words that fit certain category, like noun, verb, singular words, past tense, …

For every correct word kids choose, they get certain points. If they choose the wrong word, they will see their point level goes down. For each game, kids have certain time to reach a point goal to pass the level.

At the beginning, the speed is moderate and easy to read the words. As the game progress, the speed goes faster and there are more words to show up at the same time. Additionally, the words shown are more similar, making it harder to choose the right word.

Kids are in complete control of the game. They can switch to a different game any time. They can play as much or as little as they’d like to.

I like all the words are to fit into a sentence. For each game, kids are given a sentence with a blank word to fill in. The word they are asked to choose is to fit into the given sentence. For example, for the Verb Garden, kids may see a sentence at the top: “Do you know how to ___?”, then they are asked to pick the verb. So every verb kids pick should fit in to the given sentence. Kids will see a new sentence when they start a new game. For Verb Garden, they will see “Are you going to ___ the vegetables?”, with word choices of eat, wash, like; “The puppy ___ its toy”, with word choices like chases, rolls, likes; “I don’t ___ as much as I used to”, with word choices of wash, write, teach, … This gives kids a good sense on how to use the words and grammar rules.

Smashing Grammar is a fun grammar app for kids in elementary school. It encourages kids to practice more, thus reinforce what they have learned at school.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
