Astronaut Story Teaching Kids Problem Solving post image

Problem solving skills are so important for kids, more important than academic scores. But how do you teach problem solving skills? One way is to present age appropriate problems to kids, asking them to solve the problems. Amos the Astronauts is a story app for toddler and preschool kids not only tells a story but also teaching kids about problem solving.

Amos is an astronaut who accidentally landed on a planet he’s never been before. Although he is safe and alive, he has to fix his spaceship. Just as he starts cutting a tree to make the parts he needs for fixing the ship, some local people find him. Not knowing who he is, they captured him, and put him into a deep dungeon.

Will Amos be free again? Will he be able to fix his spaceship?

Kids will follow Amos’s journey on this foreign planet. Amos will invite kids help him solve puzzles, assist local residents on their need. In return, Amos receives help and guides from these local residents on finding the materials he needs to fix the spaceship.

Throughout the story, kids will follow Amos talking to different people and help them solve their problems, and make friends. They will help Amos put puzzles together to escape from the dungeon, pick the eggs of required color and pattern, make and assemble arrows, collect items that will help Amos fix the spaceship. All these activities are age appropriate and interactive.

The whole story is kids-led. Kids are free to decide which part they want to go first, and if they missed an important part, they won’t be able to collect everything they need to help Amos repair the spaceship. One way or other, they will be given hint to visit all the places to get a complete set of materials needed to fix the ship.

I especially like the parts that Amos has to offer the items he collected for fixing the ship to some local people to solve their problem first.

Finally, Amos is able to fix the spaceship and say goodbye to his new friends on the planet.

Through the story, kids learn to overcome difficulties, not giving up even when things seem impossible to turn around, always help others, and be creative at problem solving solutions.

Amos the Astronaut is available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. You can also read the story on the website. The website story is free, but doesn’t have any of the interactive activities as well as many features that are available in the app.
