Drum sets are expensive, even just a small set of almost toy size, it is still a lot money. It also takes a lot space at home. If you have a child who likes to beat drums and make noises, you can now use this wonderful app and hand the iPad to your child. iAmDrums is a drum app simulating the real drum set. The sound effect is as good as real, if not better.
When you start the app, you will see 3 options: play, create, or more.
For Play, you can choose different styles of drum sets, and just start playing. There are more than 20 different kits in the app, such as: rock, acoustic, punk, analog, minimal. Each set is a full set of drums, including snare, throne, toms, and of course, drums. It’s sound is very realistic. It has built in the effect that if you hit the center of the drum, the sound is louder, and if you hit away from the center, the sound is not as full as that coming from the center. Similarly, you will also experience effect that works for the snare and high-hat so that you get pedal mute sound or the crisp crack of a rim shot.
To create, you get a grid showing different instrument and you can add sound effects on each one. It is a full mixer called Loop maker mode. You can create sound blocks for each instrument, and move them around to change the sequence of the tracks. Once you are satisfied with how the whole piece sound, you can save it in your Kickstart library.
It in deed looks very professional. Unfortunately I don’t have enough knowledge to share all the features in the app. To get the full range of the sound effect, you might want to use headphones or connect to an external speaker system.
iAmDrums is a fun drum app that can serve anyone no matter the level of music and drum knowledge or skill. It is available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. But I suggest to put it on iPad if you can, as it will be much easier to play with a bigger screen.
