Alphabet App for Kids Using Incidental Learning Approach

Alphabet App for Kids Using Incidental Learning Approach post image

ABC Gurus is a fun alphabet app for preschool kids. It teaches both letter names and letter sounds. What makes this app stand out is the incidental learning design. Incidental learning is the learning happens by chance in connection with something else. In this app, kids will be creating alphabet characters, but during the process of creating the characters, they will have lots of opportunities to hear the sound of the letters, thus learn the letter sound unconsciously. This is one of the best approaches for teaching toddlers and preschool kids.

When kids start the app, they will see a big planet covering the bottom half of the screen. There are letters spreading around the planet. Swiping a finger on the planet, kids can pick the letter they want to play with.

Once kids pick a letter, they can use different decoration tools to decorate the letter. They can choose different hats, eyes, mouths, stickers, … They can also color the letter. If kids have enough fine motor control, parents can encourage kids to trace the letter. While kids decorating the letter, every time kids touch the letter, they will hear the letter’s sound. The more the kids play around the letter, the more they hear the letter sound.

When kids are happy with how the letter looks, they can press the play button at the top right corner. This will bring an animated figure that starts with the letter, such as a cowboy for C. Make sure to ask kids to tap on the figure, as this is the trick to start the little animation. For the cowboy, kids will see the hat come off the cowboy’s head, revealing a cow standing on top his head.

Depends on kids level, parent can choose between upper case and lower case letter for kids to play with. The choice button is at the top right corner on the home screen.
