Shout Science

The History of Science is anything but boring with Scott Dubois’ Shout Science. This app presents the biographies of three Scientists who made history during  the Scientific revolution.  These are not your regular narratives though.  Each person and their work comes alive in an interactive comic strip. On opening the app kids will find an interactive map and timeline, where they can find the featured scientists. Currently there are three biographies that kids can explore  by tapping the scientist’s homeland on the map or… Read more

Robots for iPAD

Robots for iPAD is a very cool app about Robots. It is developed by IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers). It has pictures and videos of 126 robots from 19 countries, with tons of information about each one.  I suggest all kids take a look at it, even you are just remotely interested in robots – it will open your minds up, learn the potential of technology and its impact in our everyday life.  It is currently FREE, and… Read more

The Book of Holes

The Book of Holes is what I like to call a ‘progressive’ approach to explaining the way the world works by virtue of its holes. This App is based on a 2006 Children’s Book written and designed by Poul Lange, a Design Firm based in LA who creates among other things, book cover designs. In 2006, this particular book made the top 50 list of best designed books according to the American Institute of Graphic Arts. In other words, this… Read more

Normally, book apps don’t really appeal to me. I love paper books. I want my kids to love paper books. Sprinkle

Sprinkle is a fun physics based game. It just went free for a week.  It is like a combination of Angry Birds and Where is my water.  The story behind the game: inhabitants of Titan, a moon of Saturn, lived out their days peacefully in their straw hut homes – until space tourists from Earth crashed through Saturn’s rings, bringing a storm of flaming asteroids crashing down on the Titans. To combat the widespread fires threatening their homes, the Titans… Read more

Designed for children ages 4-12, Bobo Explores Light covers 21 light-related topics, like… Read more

Water Wheel from Curiosity School App

While it is getting warm, I start collecting ideas on activities we can do outside.  I found a FREE app called Curiosity School. It has instructions on making a water wheel with egg carton. We did it over the weekend.  It is very easy to make and we all had a good time making it. While running the water wheel, we had opportunity to talk about how energy can change its form, and how we can change the natural energy into… Read more

Sylvan Dell

On iGameMom, we have reviewed a couple book reader apps.  You can think a book reader app as a book library or book store, where you can find many books, and pick which one you want to read or purchase.  Recently, Bethany from No Twiddle Twaddle told me about an app from Sylvan Dell.  As soon as I looked at the app, I felt in love with it right away.  In Sylvan Dell, all the books are science and math… Read more
