Best Natural and Animal Science Apps for Preschool Kids – A Best Educational Apps for Kids List from iGameMom

Best Preschool Nature Animal Science App from iGameMom
One of my favorite science app series for this age group is Rounds by Nosy Crow.  There are only two apps in this series now, but they are adding more.

Rounds: Franklin Frog:  a very engaging interactive science app for toddlers. It explores the life cycle of a frog — including feeding, hibernation, mating, birth, growing from tadpoles, and maturation — in a way that the toddlers can understand and are intrigued to explore more. I love the way the little frog talks, in a child’s voice with adorable sense of humor.

Rounds: Parker Penguin:  a very cute app teaching kids the life cycle of a penguin. The technology they used in the app compliments the learning experience very well, engaging the kids to help the penguin Parker slide on ice, swim in the water, catch the food, … With the help of simple art and kids’ voice narration, kids feel they are part of the growing process.

The next series is from ABCmouse.com.  Here are two titles in the series:

ABCmouse.com Zoo Set 1 to 3 (Free): there are a total of 3 apps under this title. In each Zoo Set, there are 5 animals.  Kids interact with the animals in the beautiful nature setting background.  Each tap on the animal triggers a new fun fact.  There is a written facts sheet for kids who want to read, by themselves or with parents.

ABCmouse.com The Grand Canyon (Free): Not about animals, but about the national park Grand Canyon.  Follow the two computer mice ABC and 123, explore the park and learn interesting facts about the Grand Canyon.  There are 3 ways to read the app, depending on kids reading ability.  The games at the end of the app are some added fun for the kids.

Here are a couple more apps for toddlers are nature and animal related:

Curious George at the zoo: Who doesn’t love Curious George? In this app, kids play with different animals, help George wake them up, feed them food, … in the mean time, learn something about the animals.  It is a game based app, good for the young toddlers to play and learn at the same time.  A good app for Curious George fun.

Nothing Ever Happens at the South Pole: wirtten by Stan and Jan Berenstain, creators of the classic The Berenstain Bears series, the story features an eager young penguin who is searching for adventure in the South Pole. What will he find? Kids will be delighted while following the little penguin’s journey discovering all the fun in the south pole …

Below are apps I listed for kids age 6 – 10, but kids age 3 to 6 can also enjoy:

The Smithsonian series is designed for kids age 3 to 8.  Pre-schoolers definitely can benefit from the apps. I am listing some titles I did not put in the list for elementary kids, for more titles, please visit the other list Best Natual and Animal Science Apps for Elementary Kids.

Triceratops Gets Lost: The Prehistoric forest can be a very dangerous place for a young Triceratops. When he is left behind by his herd, Triceratops suddenly finds himself alone and helpless! The book gives you a glimpse into the life of this incredible creature.  All facts are carefully reviewed by paleontologists at the Smithsonian Institution.

Woolly Mammoth in Trouble: as a storm comes, Woolly Mammoth realizes he is lost… Follow Woolly Mammoth on a prehistoric adventure! With beautiful graphics and powerful sound effects, kids will feel the exciting adventures of the prehistoric age are happening right outside their door!  Three ways to read the app to accommodate various reading abilities.

Turtle Trek: this free app is not in any series, but a good one. It is the first app from SeaWorld. I also listed it for age 6 to 10. Kids play games, win stars, and learn fun facts about sea creatures, all at the same time. There are In-App purchases, but purchases are not necessary to uncover all 22 sea creatures.

Hope you find the list helpful.
